I had competed for a few years but found it hard to maintain my technique and focus towards the end of fights, because I was so tired. "I originally started training at Melbourne's Underground Strength Gym to get into shape as well as to improve my strength and conditioning for Brazilian Jiu-jitsu competition. Training with John has helped me to improve in both these aspects. When I began training with John I had come back from working in the USA for 6 months. I had been pretty unhealthy overseas, eating a lot of junk food and consuming a large amount of alcohol. I had put on around 10kgs. However, with John’s support and tips on weight loss I have been able to quickly the drop 10 kgs. Training with John has definitely translated to my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu game. John always makes slight modifications to the workouts we do to make them more functional and specific for grappling. In the short period I have been training under John at underground strength gym, I have found what it is like to train under a real strength and conditioning coach. Every workout is designed to challenge you both physically and mentally, and are guaranteed to push you to your limits. Since I’ve started my training, The results came in a very short period of time both inside and outside of the gym, my strength in the big lifts has increased, and I have also found a great increase in explosiveness core strength and mental toughness, which has definitely given me an edge when I play football (soccer). Training under Zach’s guidance since sophmore year has transformed me physically as well as mentally. I went from 160 lbs. to 228 lbs. in 2 years and it has made me a Lion on the Football field. Now, I can bench press 350, squat 405 and deadlift 500 lbs. Back when I started I remember deadlifting 135 lbs! Without the Underground I don’t know where I would be in my football career. I do know for sure that it would be no where near where I am now. Training with Zach has been the most important decision I ever made for Football. Period! |

Zach has taught me a lot about proper training for Judo, BJJ and athletics in general. I’ve been training at The Underground Strength Gym with Zach for almost 2 years and the results are beyond what I ever expected. I don’t even think my Dad knew I would improve so quickly! The first day I walked through that door I was just your everyday soft athlete that had no idea how to work out and how to push myself. I weighed less than 140 lbs when I started training with Zach as a freshman, barely 1 year later I am 170 lbs and a Totally different Animal! After my first few months of training I knew Zach’s training would get me stronger but another trait that Zach Really helped me acquire was a killer instinct and mental toughness, which has probably made the biggest impact on my life and Basketball. After 9 months of training with Zach I was more confident in my athletic ability then ever before. I went from being a good basketball player to a great basketball player. I was a dominant JV player and in one year Zach’s training transformed me into a dominant varsity player yet I feel like I am only beginning to tap my potential. As a sophomore I was on the county scoring leaders list for 10 straight weeks! I finished the season second on my varsity team in scoring, got an all county honorable mention and made 1st team all sophomore’s team at the guard position . I credit a great deal of this to Zach, thanks to him I was physically stronger and mentally stronger then my competition and it propelled me to a very successful year. I haven’t even tapped my true potential training with Zach and it’s amazing how he knows exactly how to keep making everyone stronger, faster, more explosive and more muscular. “I only have one regret in life…..and that’s not training with Zach SOONER!” After working with Zach for about 3 months my MENTAL game changed BIG time and my strength has skyrocketed. With Zach’s training I began beating various state placewinners as well as state champs. I only have one regret in life…..and that’s not training with Zach SOONER! I started training with Zach a week after I got knocked out first round of wrestling regions freshman year. After training with Zach for a year I gained much more confidence as well as strength I never thought I could develop. That big jump in strength and confidence lead me to a 37-4 sophmore year, winning a county title as well as numerous tournaments throughout the year and a district title! When the region tournament came around I placed 3rd and qualified for the state tournament after getting knocked out of the Regions freshman year. Junior year, I also made it to states at the 119 weight class. After the season I continued to train with Zach and gained 30lbs of muscle in the past 5 months due to the intense training that I endure at the Underground. I know weigh close to 155 lbs! I was barely 90 lbs when I first began training with Zach. Working out at a regular gym or following a regular program would not have given me the same results. There’s no way I could have maintained the intensity and desire. Zach’s constant encouragement and motivation as well as nutritional advice have made a big impact on my results. Hey Zach, I really just wanted to take the time and say thank you for everything. My hard work under your direction has given me the opportunity to work towards my dreams. I wouldn’t have been able to make it this far with out your help. Since I first walked into your office and saw Curls and other peoples success stories I knew I wanted to be one. I can’t say thank you enough. Your Underground methods have transformed me into an athlete I once only dreamed of. Training with Zach helped me gain 20 lbs of solid muscle over the course of my summer. My gains in strength and power have skyrocketed thanks to using Zach’s “Underground” training methods. About 6 or 7 months ago I started to train steadily with Zach in an effort to improve my overall athleticism. Before this time I was training like a bodybuilder and I looked strong, but I honestly did not feel it was giving me the return in exchange for all the time and effort I spent in the gym. When Zach trained me, we started attacking the body in short periods of time, 45 minutes max. This style of training has totally changed my whole outlook on strength training! My joints no longer ache throughout the day, and I have increased my strength, speed and power big time. I have NEVER been this strong in my life!
I just graduated the police academy and the entire time I was in the academy I was training under Zach’s guidance. I sometimes would only be able to work out once a week due to my hectic schedule, but he gave me a program to follow in my garage and backyard, he called it farm boy training. I did these workouts in my back yard. They were short but brutally effective, helping me out perform all the other recruits, ultimately winning the PT honors award, breaking some very long standing PT records at the academy! Wrestler transforms himself from losing record to state finalist in high school and top 5 nationally ranked collegiate wrestler… Hey Zach, Hope your weekend is going great! I just got back from the tournament today and it went awsome! I went 3-0 (winning the tournament) and in my first match I avenged a loss (3-2 last time I lost to him) to a kid from NY, and today I totally out muscled and out wrestled him! The final score was 10-1! Then in the finals I totally dominated this kid winning 12-0! Since training Underground I feel so strong when I wrestle now, I don’t even care who I wrestle, I just know the kid will have to step on the mat and go head to head with a beast! Those kettlebell conditioning drills are helping tremendously! In the first match I still had strength and gas left in the tank in the third period! Training with Zach has elevated my strength, speed and conditioning to a level I never thought was possible. I used to train in fancy gyms on machines, but Zach changed my style of training. Now I flip 600lb tires, perform 550lb sled drags, and can do more pull-ups than any kid my size that I know of. This style of training is what gives me the edge over my competition.
